For this approach the 'Gnome Sidebar' as proposed here
http://www.student.livjm.ac.uk/cmsphend/gnome/scoop.html
would be really cool. So that if you start a new abiword
document, it appears in the sidebar ('open/unsaved files'),
will be saved automatically and if you are in the right mood,
you can drop the file from the sidebar to the folder. With this
approach we also could have a new way of naming files. We could
make a 'properties' dialog with the fields: 'title', 'abstract',
'authors', ... this would be much more natural and easier and
we would finally bring metadata to the desktop.

This could really be nice!!!

BUT: Never, ever replace the old behaviour, I know friends which hit
the 'Save'-Button 3 times just to be sure the document is really saved.
The people don't trust in computers and such an automatic way wouldn't
be good for them.
Besides PowerUsers often doesn't like these play-arounds, the should have their
old way ...

Rgds,
Daniel
