the problem which could arise here is, that many apps could loose some
of their quality, be it translations, documentation or also programming
issues and use of deprecated stuff. have a look at gnomefiles.org or any
other conglomeration of gnome-style software and compare that quality to
what we have inside gnome.

of course, it does not have to come like this, but there is a
possibility which i personally would like to avoid.
