So if you car is leaking gas, what do you do? I put a bigger tank or you
just fix the leak.
Your proposal is about putting a bigger tank.

The problem of network connections that get interruped can be fixed. If
I put my laptop to sleep, then wake it up soon enough (hint, several
minutes), I get my ssh connection back, unless I actually change config
(IP address) where in that case it hangs.
It used to be the same for irc, until the client started listening to
Network Manager, that disconnect reconnect.

That's were I would dig to figure out a solution to that problem.

(maybe a Network Manager developer can actually comment or give a better
explaination rationale)
