While it started working for me after that point, I've been informed
that this is not actually a solution, and the fact that Evolution
started working after that is pretty much coincidence (one of those bugs
that only comes up once and then fixes itself, or so I hope).  Mea
culpa.  Like I said in my follow-up, I'm not as much in the loop yet as
I'd like to be.
