Ok,; here are the results of my latest attempt on the mac with the
ubuntu live cd.
First of all, if you leave the cd alone it will indeed boot all the
way so you do have to catch it; the bootup prompt appears to be
pretty soon after the spin-up. However, using "live nofb" does not
appear to make a difference.
However, brltty does appear to load. I see the 3.7.2 version before
the question marks come onto the display. I can go into the config
menu and change settings. If I go to tty7 and do alt+f2 and type
orca, tab, check the box and hit enter, I hear sounds from the cdrom
drive and the braille display changes to the "screen not in text
mode" message. also when I shut down the machine I get "brltty
terminated". so brltty is loading but something isn't quite right here.
btw remember that you have to use "sudo" to get brltty to run on ubuntu.
i'll have to try to research the sound some more; if I could get
brltty to work I could probably troubleshoot the sound and if I could
get sound to work I might be able to troubleshoot brltty!!!
