Its firefox and I tried gnome terminal, so I am not sure whether they
are gtk2 or 3.
And to my horror, I can't get into the orca preference at all.

The apps do appear on screen, but the window activation event which

Are you able to get into Orca's preferences and navigate around?
Are the apps GTK 2 or GTK 3 based? As I suggested on the Orca list, there may
be a problem with the GTK 2 moduels not loading, or if they are, at-spi is
for some reason loading later than it needs to.

Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is:
How do
you spend it?
