Use "import" from the imagemagick package like this or similiar:

import -quality 100 -window root ~/sshot-`date +%y%m%d.%H%M%S`.jpg
import -quality -colorspace GRAY -frame ~/sshot-`date +%y%m%d.%H%M%S`.jpg

The man page explains some more very nice possbilities.
