Animated gifs with gdk_imlib?

Is there any chance Imlib could get functionality to handle loading of
animated gifs? I'd like to be able to load an animated gif and extract its
individual frames for use, but that seems to be more trouble than it's
worth at this point. The best solution seems to be going into GIMP and
extracting every frame into its own image file, which sort of sucks but
works.
