Thanks! I was looking at things in a different light than I should
have, trying to embed AM_CONDITIONAL inside AC_CHECK_LIB rather than
setting variables in AC_CHECK_LIB and testing them outside with
AM_CONDITIONAL.
So yep, thanks for the tip. Got it working.
