Bug in gnome-terminal from gnome-core 1.0.53

rxvt 2.6.1 running locally sets the DISPLAY to unix:0.0, which does *not*
specify a hostname.  Try, for example, setting your DISPLAY to unix:0.0 and
starting xedit.  gnome-terminal mistakenly treats unix as a hostname and takes
a long time to appear because of a resolver timeout.

linux(gnome-terminal)% printenv DISPLAY
unix:0.0
linux(gnome-terminal)% xedit
linux(gnome-terminal)% gnome-terminal

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
[Several seconds elapse...]
Can't resolve host name "unix"!
