Problems compiling 1.0.40

The problem is with audiofile and esound. Hope you can
help me. I use Debian 2.1.
audiofile (0.1.9):
make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/gnome/audiofile-0.1.9/test'

linuxtest.c:103: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
linuxtest.c:103: for each function it appears in.)

I can install it and seems to work.
esound (0.2.14):
/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=link gcc -g -O2 -o esd esd.o clients.o filter.o mix.o

Other things I believe that should go in 1.0.50 are:
Arrange icons option in Gmc, so the magnetic positions are based
on the coordinates you click the icon, so I get no arrange at all.
An arrange icons to grid option will be great :).
I have tried to log as root with gdm but I can't, it says root login
is disallowed (I have tried to put AllowRoot=0 and =1 in [security], but
don't works). Any hint will be appreciated.
The Tasklist refreshes a lot of times when changing destops :?.
(I'm using gnome-core-1.0.41 and icewm)
