Hmmmm?  Why do you need to peek at the refcount?  This sounds to me
like something is wrong.

(Incidentally, I'll revert Mark's patch to GdkPixbuf to have accessors
for the refcount and art_pixbuf; the refcount is supposed to be
private stuff, and the art_pixbuf will go away).
