Compiling from CVS

Hello folks,

I know this is a FAQ, but I looked through the mailing list archive
and couldn't find it answered, nor on developer.gnome.org.

What are the steps to compiling source checked out from CVS. I'm
trying to work on mc from CVS, because the most recent release of mc
isn't close to compiling on Tru64 UNIX.

Obviously ./autogen.sh is involved, but when I run it I get the
following output. Could somebody give me a pointer to get started?

Btw, to resolve the "Invalid configuration `alphaev6-dec-osf5.0'"
messages, I would usually "cp /usr/local/share/libtool/* ." to get
config.guess and config.sub from libtool-1.3.4.
