Dual Splash Screens

I have upgraded a RedHat 6.1 system with gnome-core and gnome-applets
1.1.1, and gnome-libs 1.0.55 (.tar.gz's, not RPM's).
I now get both the RedHat GNOME Splash window and the new GNOME Splash
with the new gnome-core. How do I get rid of the stupid RedHat Splash?
