zvtterm and palette changes

Hi all,
  I'm having a problem with zvtterm in my Gnome port of Elvis.  When I
change the palette it looks like the windows are being cleared - moving a
window over them causes them to redraw and all is happy.  So I tried
adding a call to vt_update straight after the palette changes and it
doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Suggestions?
