If it's expensive, make a timeout in your change handler and only apply the
change every certain amount of time.  That way this will work no matter what
type of preference box the user chooses to use.

:) Well there is beginnings of this support (they have been beginnings for
the past year:).

I plan to have some pong specific keys in the gconf database to specify
overrides.  So that a user can choose to always get OK/Apply or always get
immediate effect boxes, and can choose between notebook or the list layout.
