Applied ;) George also fixed a crash on panel startup today after me
bugging him for a couple of hours with a hacked glib (suggested by owen)
and linking efence into the panel. The only pity is that this crash
wasn't the one we started out to find :(

The two top crashers in the panel are showstoppers for 1.4.1 and I'll
gladly fill some other holes while waiting for those to get fixed.
