libgnomeprint and ui 2.1.1

Are GNOME 2.0.x programs supposed to be able to build with the GNOME 
2.1.x files?

I updated to the 2.1.2 and a few programs don't seem to like the 2.1.1 
version of libgnomeprint/ui.

so far ghex 1.99.2 and gnumeric 1.11.1 are failing.

libgnomeprint/ui put out their pkg-config files as -2.2.pc so I created 
a link to them with -2.0.pc and now getting an error of

libgnomeprint/gnome-print-master.h: No such file or directory.

I tried put -I/usr/include/libgnomeprint-2.2 in CPPFLAGS but that 
doesn't help as the file doesn't seem to be installed by the 2.1.1 version.
