yes i agree to many of your points.
but please don't forget that there is also KDE as alternative to GNOME
and GNOME right now goes through some 'un-usability' madness which makes
it strange to use because things are done much more differently than
necessary.

well in case to get all flames back from angry developers and users. but
i think KDE will make the future at least on linux like systems. my
assume is that gnome is doing a good job on getting people off of their
desktop idea because of trying to make things MORE DIFFERENTLY than
necessary. i don't want to start over this again but to give an example
is the 'button re-ordering' thing that i hate more than anything else.
no matter how good the technology behind is. some little thing is enough
to make the rest look worse.
