Installing menu entries

Hi,

When installing a menu entry system wide it's enough to simply put
a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications but for a user local install
I try to put the desktop file in ~/.gnome2/vfolders/applications but
nothing shows up in the menu. Am I missing something? How do I do this
the right way?
