Jeroen-
I was able to get gIDE running properly! All I needed to do was copy
all the gIDE plug-ins from /usr/local/share/oaf to /usr/share/oaf.
Thanks for pointing out that Nautilus installs OAF. I had
oaf-0.6.5-ximian.3. What I don't have is the 'oaf-run-query' binary
that Gustavo recommended I use to see plug-ins.
gIDE developers: Consider adding a warning message if zero plug-ins are
found. (Best if the message mentions OAF configuration procedures.)
I spent some time fiddling with OAF_INFO_PATH and
/etc/oaf/oaf-config.xml but I could not discover how to tell OAF to use
both .../share/oaf directories.
