VMware crisis

To get my installed VMware player running properly I
had to run a script as root (vmware-config.pl).

Since then, I can't get online with ubuntu.
This is not the same problem as before
(http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=193850)
as stopping and restarting eth0 doesn't fix it.
Instead, trying the router's IP I get a 404 *from
ubuntu's apache webserver*.
All the settings look normal, and /etc/interfaces
looks normal too, though I can't be certain.

Basically, until I figure this out, I can't do any
work on docs :(
