Re: Gnome-speech

Marc,

If you are going to define bonobo interfaces, it turns out there is a way
to synthesize input to any X application, not just bonobo based ones,
which is quite easy. There are circumstances where you can get better
behavior out of bonoboized applications (when the application does not
have a window for a widget in some subportion), but having something usable for
everything is a really big win. This is, of course, only really useful
for the speech input side of the equasion.

I suggest that these interfaces be made generic, independent of Bonobo,
and either use bonobo or this other method, that will work for any
X application. And best of all is to coordinate this work with KDE,
so things "just work" for everyone.

This method was used to great effect by Bob Scheifler almost a decade
ago.

For details, give me a call, I'm at 617-551-7683.

And yes, I'm greedy: I want things to work everywhere, as much as possible...
