adding translations to development packages

Hi

We are translating 1.2 versions of gnome-core, gnome-libs, applets etc
Checked those out from cvs with cvs co -r 1.2 ...

I'd like to checkout the current version (no -r parameter) and add the
translations there too, even if they aren't up to date for devel
versions.
The reason is that when 1.4 is released and new branches are made, they
will already contain language name in configure.in, and po file, it just
has to be updated. Is this correct ? What do you suggest ?
