Hi Gnome-i18n,
The "iso-codes" project on the debian CVS server
http://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-isocodes aims to provide
translations
of country names and currency names. Since I need exactly that for
gnucash
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118391 I checked it out,
and I
found the German translation in a not-so-good shape. Therefore I
proofread
and updated the German translation of countries and currencies.
However, I couldn't contact the maintainer of the iso-codes
project; the email
timed out. On IRC someone suggested to send the updates here, and I
hope
someone might be able to submit it to that project. Attached you
find both a
gzipd patch against the current CVS, and both po files as full
files in a
tarball.
Christian, translations for the iso-codes project are managed by The
Translation Project at the University of MontrÃal.

The German team page is here:
http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/translation/registry.cgi?team=de
and I notice that they have iso-codes pretty much up to date.
You can send your file to any of the translators listed there.
Note: the Debian external PO file listings are not up-to-date. I have
asked questions about this on debian-i18n, and have not had this
explained in any way that makes sense to me. The status page for my
language shows many files as incomplete which are at 100% for the TP,
Gnome and other projects. So I would recommend checking with a non-
Debian file's maintainer before updating that file, if it's listed at
Debian.
Debian's distributed nature means even their own listings aren't up
to date. I have quite a few translations I'd submitted months and
months ago, still waiting to be applied. :( So they still show up as
incomplete. It's confusing, and discouraging.
The Debian-Installer, however, is well-managed.
