I have the same problem as Adrian, except that I am running an older
WindowMaker (0.17 or so).
I find that WindowMaker will not concede the xload application to the
panel: it fights hard and keeps it in a wm-controlled window, with
title bar and all.
I dusted off my old fvwm2, and I can swallow xload (which I like
because it gives >1 load indication). Sadly xdaliclock goes into a
spin with an endless stream of:
