diff patches from ftp.jimpick.com

Okay, yesterday I downloaded the big tarball snapshot of a few of the
CVS directories from jimpick.  Today I downloaded the diff patches,
and attempted to use them.  

Unfortunately, and this is embaressing, I can't figure out how to
apply them correctly.  Anyone want to help me out here?
