Gnome libs 1.0.53 compile error

I don't suppose anyone would be able to assist me with this.

I'm rebuilding gnome from tarballs for installation on a Stampede Linux
system (0.89) and I have am using the Install from Tarball installation
Instructions on gnome.org.  Everything is upgraded to the point of ORBit
0.5 with no problems, but gnome-libs craps out with this error in the
linking...

`impl_CosNaming_NamingContext__create'

ORBit was installed with a --prefix=/usr, and I am attempting to install
gnome-libs with --prefix=/usr/X11R6.  I have tried different variations
of command-line arguments to the configure script, but I get the same
result.

Hoping someone can shed some light on the subject for me.
