What does:

	sawmill-client -e "(featurep 'gnome)"

output? Alternatively you could try executing:

	sawmill-client -e "(require 'gnome)"

from command line and check if that works.

BTW,
If you installed from RPMS, did you also install sawmill-gnome package?
How do you start sawmill? From .xsession/.xinitrc or is it started by
gnome-session?
