I don't understand that at all. /etc/hosts is for lookups intended for local
netwoks - all ISP lookups are done via DNS. PPP will make the appropriate
entires in /etc/resolv.conf to resolve unknown host names. /etc/hosts should
only contain host names your ISP doesn't know about - like local machines on a
home network. I was under the impression that you had to have an entry for the
loopback device. Try posting the results of ifconfig. 0.0.0.0 is the global
broadcast, yes?
