Problems with icons and Internet connection

Hi
I' ve two problems:
1.When i use the file manager, i try ti iconify it but when this happens
all the icons in the desktop desapear! Someone knows why it happens.
2.i'm trying to stablish my internet connection using the RedHat dialup
applet but the connection starts (the programs says it) and when i
launch the netscape the conecction disapear, and i have to reconnect, so
i can´t use internet.
I use a normal ISP connection whith chap protocolto identify users, the
ip is asigned by the host and the gateway too.
I´m using Helix Gnome on a RH 6.2
