key-bindings and panels

I really like the helix GNOME desktop (even though their installer doesn't
work on my SPARCs).  It looks nice, and has only screwed up a few things.  
So, my first question is in regards to key-bindings.  I run saw* (whatever
it is now) as my WM, and before upgrading the Helix GNOME (1.2.x), I had
meta-F[1..9] bound to switching between workspaces.  As of the upgrade, this
no longer works.  I've checked the saw* config, and everything is in order,
so somewhere GNOME has decided to steal these keys.  Can anybody tell me
where they're set up?  As a related note, how can I get the "GNOME" key to
open up the foot menu, or do other useful things?  In saw*, it's grabbed as
NUL, so maybe I need a different keyboard map?  Anybody know which one might
work?
And now onto my second question...  Helix GNOME has this nice thing (panel?)
at the top, and then a "normal" panel at the bottom.  This is all fine and
dandy, except that I'd like to have a couple of things from each, and I'd
like to be able to put it wherever I bloody well please.  I can move the
panel from the bottom around, but I can't find the clock that's on the thing
at the top, and I can't move the top bar to anyplace.  I suppose that hiding
that top thing/panel/menu would work as well, but the hiding would have to
be FUNCTIONAL, which I've only seen from 1 toolbar type thing so far (and it
wasn't GNOME).  The toolbar for my SoundBlaster Live! has an option where it
won't appear until I click on the edge of the bar, which is just so much
nicer than having the bloody things slow up (err, show up) every time I try
to scroll.  
Anyway, if anybody knows how to accomplish any of that, I'd be most
appreciative for tips and hints.
