Mail check applet

It's the first time I'm using the mail check applet. I want to
configure it look for mail on a remote serve (IMAP), but I there is a
field in the preferences window for the password. I don't want to store
the password, but the applet doesn't ask for it.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
I'm using gnome-core-1.1.5.
