lock-ups

Hi all.

Three times today I've had complete freezes while using
Gnome/X1186/Linux.  I'm using Mandrake 7.02 with Helixcode Gnome.  I
added the Helix stuff a couple of days ago, and didn't have any lockups
before then.  When these freezes happen they are complete:  no mouse
response or keyboard response,  including ctrl-alt-bckspc, ctrl-alt-f1,
etc.

Is this a know issue?  Can someone loan me a clue?
