I suspect that /usr/i486-linux-libc5/ is the wrong place to put it.
Someone should correct me, but I think this is for old old programs
which expect to be linked against libc5, which is something current
programs do not use.
Now, where it -should- go, I'm not sure :) Mine (on a RH box) is this:
[hobbit aloss ~]$ ls -l `locate libesd.so.0`
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Oct 12 2000 /usr/lib/libesd.so.0 -> libesd.so.0.2.19
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 25416 Aug 12 2000 /usr/lib/libesd.so.0.2.19
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 19882 Aug 6 2005 /usr/lib/libesd.so.0.2.7
(Ignore the date on the last line: the box had been time-travelling before
I got it.)
So /usr/lib for me. That /usr is what RH use for the Gnome "prefix".
I think SuSE's prefix for Gnome is /opt or /opt/something. So
perhaps /opt/usr/lib or /opt/gnome/usr/lib or something of that
sort is there on your machine already? Not anything with libc5
in though. :)
