For a Debian system, all the libesd files are in /usr/lib,
/usr/lib/libesddsp.so.0
/usr/lib/libesddsp.so.0.2.17
/usr/lib/libesd.so.0
/usr/lib/libesd.so.0.2.17
/usr/lib/libesd.a
/usr/lib/libesddsp.so
/usr/lib/libesddsp.la
/usr/lib/libesd.la
/usr/lib/libesddsp.a
/usr/lib/libesd.so
Are you sure gdm is looking down the right path for the file?
