Hello all,
and thank Julien for additional information
*When I do cd /dev and ls -l | less, I obtain:
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 1970-01-01 01:00 v4l
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 15 2003-11-30 15:41 video->/dev/v4l/video0
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 20 2003-11-30 15:52 video->v4l/video0
*With usermod, I placed me as a regular user in the "video" group.
I also added previously "v4l" as a module in /etc/X11/Xf86Config.
*Additionally, lsmod send me back:
Module Size Used by Tainted: PF
snd-pcm-oss 40164 0 (autoclean)
pwcx-i386 87040 0 (unused)
pwc 44264 0 [pwcx-i386]
videodev 6368 1 [pwc]
snd-mixer-oss 13880 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss]
uhci 27472 0 (unused)
snd-intel8x0 19844 0
snd-ac97-codec 38016 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-pcm 64768 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-intel8x0]
snd-page-alloc 5292 0 [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]

snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
soundcore 4196 4 [snd]
*However when I try xawtv i get back:
This is xawtv-3.86, running on Linux /i686 (2.4.20-gentoo-r8)
can't open /dev/v4l/video0: Connection timed out
v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
v4l2: open /dev/v4l/video0: Permission denied
v4l2: open /dev/v4l/video0: Permission denied
v4l: open /dev/v4l/video0: Permission denied
no video grabber device available
*Morevover I tried xawtv -hwscan:
This is xawtv-3.86, running on Linux /i686 (2.4.20-gentoo-r8)
looking for available devices
port 56-56
type: Xvideo
name: Intel(R) 830M/845G/852M/855GM/865G Video overlay
/dev/v4l/video0: Permission denied
If GM is started, I obtain the nice interface. In the video section, the
configuration druid indicates me that only the picture is available (i.e. i
have no possibility to select /dev/video0).
I do not understand what i should do...
Either I have no /dev/v4l, GM disagree logically.
Either I have a /dev/v4L, GN does not give me the possibility to select
something else that "Picture".
Thank you in advance for any further help
My best
Thierry.
