I wish Gnumeric wasn't tied to GNOME.
I guess there must be some reasons why
it is, but I wish it wasn't since I'd
like to use Gnumeric (I use Abiword,
Dillo, and Gimp and other GTK apps)
but I don't want to use GNOME.

I have no need for GNOME (or KDE),
but I do have a need for a spreadsheet.
I read "Future Plans" on the web site,
but saw no plans to free Gnumeric from
GNOME dependancy.

Can such a "Future Plan" be added?
I don't want to be forced into using
a "Desktop Environment" just to use a
spreadsheet. VTWM is all I need for X.

You're mis-interpretting what GNOME is. Gnumeric will run jsut fine
with vtwm. There is no need to run the gnome-panel, nautilus, or
anyt of the other nifty toys in GNOME. I maintain the project and
don't actually run them. FVWM worked nicely 10 years ago, and I see
no compelling reason to change for now.

Gnumeric does use many of the gnome libraries, eg libglade or
libgnomeui. As part of the port to win32 we're going to be
decreasing that number a bit, optionally down to just the gtk+
level. Which would put us about on par with the gimp.

Howevre, none of that should effect your ability to run just
gnumeric, without all of gnome's window dressing.

Hope that clarifies things
