I wasn't! It looks very useful (and I'll certainly use it once it's
part of GTK)--it's something I have wanted in addition to the TreeView
for some time. I may well find a use for it in another part of the
project.
In this case, the information would require a quite sophisticated
CellRenderer, and the columns and headings are also quite fancy, so I
think the Canvas is the right choice for now. Since I've now created
all the basic spreadsheet-like functionality except for
move/fill/cut/copy/paste, I think I'll stick with it for the time
being (it's been a useful learning experience).
