store the image in memory as jpg/gif

Hi,

I am developing an application using GTK+. Using GTK,
Is it possible to store the image in memory as
jpg/gif, Instead of rendering it to the screen?

I mean does GTK allows us to create a bitmap/gif/jpg
in memory, so that this can be stored as a
bitmap/gif/jpg file.

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.
