GTK+ default resource question

Hi,

There are several API's that return default resources, such as:

gtk_widget_get_default_colormap(),
gtk_widget_get_default_style(),
gdk_screen_get_default_colormap()
gdk_screen_get_system_colormap()

Are default resources like these, which are owned by GTK+, allowed to be 
modifed or are they read-only.
