A always thought it might be handy to easily switch context. E.g. switch
to doing work, photography, etc.
Within one context the recent-files would be different than the next.
But as this is merely a simple thought, I don't know how this would look
like or work in real life. And surely its more of grand-picture idea
than an idea specifically for the recent-files thing.

While these are useful they do require to open the app first, and if a
user would have opened a file using nautilus he might not always know
which app it was he used to edit or view the file.

I don't mean to shoot down you idea or implementation. I merely wanted
to point out my experiences, in case they make sense beyond my personal
use case.
