Long standing glib bug?

I filed a bug yesterday:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523463
I looked through the tracker and another 20+ bugs that all look like the
same problem. In addition, at least one of those bugs has already had a
number of OTHER bugs closed as duplicates of it.
The code that I had problems with seems, according to SVN annotate, to
have been present relatively unmolested since Dec 2000 or so.
The bug itself appears pretty straightforward although choosing the
correct solution requires a bit more understanding of the code's purpose
than I have.
I still have a valid core dump with fully-debug-enabled, non-optimized
versions of glib et. al. if anyone thinks more information is needed.
Any thoughts about this?
