make gtk+-1.2.2 problem

Hi everybody

My System is a MIPS ULTRIX V4.3A (Rev. 146).
At first : To Erik Mouw :
Your hint in using bash instead of /bin/sh worked abolutely fine. Who knows
why I got the failure

/bin/sh: bad substitution
Exit 1

while running the config -script of glib-1.2.2.
I simply replaced ALL occurrences of /bin/sh with my bash path.

But: my new Problem : Installation of gtk+-1.2.2 :
The configure -script run very well. Afterwards I typed
make  ,but after a while it stopped with th following :

make[2]: *** [gtkfilesel.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/users/lfk/fichtner/soft/gtk+/gtk+-1.2.2/gtk'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/users/lfk/fichtner/soft/gtk+/gtk+-1.2.2'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
Exit 2


Who could help me at this point ?
