Weird combo box problem

Whenever I execute the following line, the entry box of my
combo box gets filled with random garbage characters:

gtk_combo_set_popdown_strings(GTK_COMBO(cwdbox),
local_win->cwd_history);

local_win->cwd_history is a GList that holds a bunch
of strings. Anybody know why this is happening?
