It would be nice if nautilus could be run with no windows, just to tell it to start and wait in the background. Like gconf does. Nautilus takes a long time to start up. Normally it's kept running by the desktop icons, but for those whom turn that off... It's annoying. Maybe there could be a --start-factory option or something that could be put into gnome-session.
