I can see quite a few use cases for this sort of thing.

Person A walks in. "Oh hey Person B, I have this really funny photo I'd
like to show you"

Person B: "Cool! Where is it?"

Person A: "It's in my home directory. Look I'll show you .... oh"

How does person A get to their files without having log out then back in
again? A context menu to let you open up a directory as another user seems
handy, assuming it works as you'd expect. 

While long menus are clearly bad, the current ones in GNOME 2.8 aren't
excessive IMHO and you don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater
- a usability enhancement like this is important. Otherwise Person B would
have to use the terminal and su anyway.
