i see now.
to summarize:
nautilus uses a different approach to show thumbnails when the files is
small (the limit seems to be aroun 30kbytes)..
and that mode does is buggy / does not work correctly.
because my example files, while thes are small-in-harddisk-size (below
30kb), are a lot biggir-in-picture-dimensions (around 400x400) than the
thumbnail size, so they have to be downscaled. and they are downscaled
to a size which is a lot smaller than the size of the other thumbnails.
is this correct now?
p.s: that means that it does NOT work as designed, imho ;)
