This means that Orca cannot connect to the graphical desktop running
(the X Windows System Server). If you are running the 'orca' command
from a character console, you probably need to set your DISPLAY
environment variable to point to the X server. You can verify this is
the problem by running some other X command, such as 'xdpyinfo'. If it
says something like 'unable to open display', it means your environment
isn't set up to connect to the X server.
The first thing to try is typing the following command exactly as
written. Spacing, punctuation, and capitalization are important:
export DISPLAY=:0
Then, try the 'xdpyinfo' command again. If it still complains, your X
server probably isn't running. If it doesn't complain, then orca
should work.

Hi,
I have problems runing Orca. when I tipe orca it don't start and if I
try that under a terminal y see this message: Cannot start Orca
because it cannot connect
to the Desktop. Please make sure the DISPLAY environment variable has
been set."
Any suggestion? I'm using lattest orca from subversion and this
happened
when I updated from hardy to intrepid (yes, i'm crazy, but I only use
my
system to learn and testing purposes).
Best regards, and excuse My bad english.
