Ok, that (and many other things) solved the problem but I can't recomend the
upgrade from hardy to intrepid, because has many dependencies problems with
gnome-orca, python-atspi and others... I had to uninstall ATK, Gail, at-spi,
then continue my upgrade proces, recompile that and for the first time
compile gnome speech (mmm I don't know if you're going to understand this
:P).
Best regards,
mk.

This means that Orca cannot connect to the graphical desktop running (the
X Windows System Server). If you are running the 'orca' command from a
character console, you probably need to set your DISPLAY environment
variable to point to the X server. You can verify this is the problem by
running some other X command, such as 'xdpyinfo'. If it says something
like 'unable to open display', it means your environment isn't set up to
connect to the X server.
The first thing to try is typing the following command exactly as written.
Spacing, punctuation, and capitalization are important:
export DISPLAY=:0
Then, try the 'xdpyinfo' command again. If it still complains, your X
server probably isn't running. If it doesn't complain, then orca should
work.

Mmmmmm, screen reading problems...
Hi,
I have problems runing Orca. when I tipe orca it don't start and if I try
that under a terminal y see this message: Cannot start Orca because it
cannot connect
to the Desktop. Please make sure the DISPLAY environment variable has
been set."
Any suggestion? I'm using lattest orca from subversion and this happened
when I updated from hardy to intrepid (yes, i'm crazy, but I only use my
system to learn and testing purposes).
Best regards, and excuse My bad english.
mk.
